This comes from Jane Clarenbach
Director, Public Education & Affiliate Relations
National Association for Gifted Children:

"Greetings, I could not be more pleased, and relieved, to report that late last [month] the Senate...approved the 2006 Labor/HHS/Education appropriations conference report, which includes $9.693 million for the Javits program. The House had approved the same report [the previous] week. The President is expected to sign it into law shortly.

True, the funding level is a bit lower than the 2005 level. However, with overall reductions in federal education spending, and the House version of the bill providing $0 for Javits, your grassroots efforts in support of gifted learners are what kept us in the running. The 2006 funding is sufficient to continue the state grants awarded in 2005 and to permit the National Research Center to continue its work -- all good news!

A special thanks goes to our Congressional supporters who spoke up on our behalf through the arduous process. You're all due a deep sigh of relief.

But, our work on Javits funding for the 2007 fiscal year will begin in early February, right after the President submits his proposed budget to Congress.

Best wishes for a very happy holiday!
Jane
